The Stonecat Café is a funky, eclectic spot serving some of the finest culinary cuisine on Seneca Lake. They were pioneers of the farm-to-table movement long before it became popular, adding just a twist of southern inspiration. Scott Signori, the founder and heart and soul of the Stonecat Café, remains a guiding force to this day. He was kind, lovable, and funny as hell.
Scott was a creative and talented chef with years of experience in Washington, D.C., where he launched his first restaurant, The Escape, marking the start of his journey into restaurant entrepreneurship. By the late 1990s, Scott felt it was time for a change, leading him to the Finger Lakes. When the opportunity arose to purchase the old Bond Fruit Stand on Route 414, Scott had a vision, and he brought it to life in spectacular fashion.
The Stonecat opened its doors in 1999. Not only did Scott realize his dream, but he also gathered a crew of dreamers, artists, and characters who found a home with him. It's a true testament to his legacy that, after his passing in 2021 his staff united to keep the Stonecat magic alive. Scott’s final wish was for the restaurant to continue thriving.
Today, The Stonecat is owned by his family, they are grateful to have an amazing team running the business for them. Katy Dunlap has taken the reins of The Stonecat, a challenging task she has embraced with great success. She has managed to preserve the old charm while implementing Scott’s vision for the next chapter of the Stonecat, a hybrid dining experience, in a casual, comfortable setting with the same amazing food and drinks. Sunday Jazz Brunch remains a favorite, along with Pasta Night on Thursdays and weekly seasonal specials. The Catbana (outdoor bar), was built in Scott’s last few years and it has become a wonderful addition and great place to gather.
Jeremy Personius has stepped into the role of Executive Chef. With many years of industry experience and training at the Culinary Institute of America, he is more than qualified to create amazing dishes. He was fortunate to work with Scott and learn his style. This year, Jeremy welcomed an intern from his alma mater, Zach Burrows, bringing some excitement to the kitchen.
The Stonecat is deeply committed to supporting local growers, proudly showcasing them on their wall. Over 20 local growers and producers supply 75% of the ingredients in the food served. The restaurant also has a signature Whole Animal Program, sourcing whole animals and using every part for their dishes. This approach is not only more ethical but also unique, as they might be the only ones in the region undertaking such a challenge. These local growers and producers are invited to a special Earth Day event every year where they are thanked for their hard work.
Mary Wittig, a long-time fixture at The Stonecat, continues to warm hearts as part of the “new” team, coordinating guest service, creating fancy cocktails and offering great conversation. She embodies the spirit of The Stonecat so much that her daughter, Jasmine, has become an integral part of the team. Jasmine has taken on digital and retail design along with helping with many other aspects of the business.
The Stonecat was one of the first restaurants on South East Seneca. It holds a special place for many locals and visitors alike. Whether you come for the Catfish, Pulled Pork, or Pink Dink, there’s always a great experience to be had. After 25 years, they aren’t going anywhere, and I think we can speak for all South East Seneca lovers when I say we are thankful for that.
