Scale House Brewery has quickly become one of the most popular spots in South East Seneca. Driving by on any day, you will see cars overflowing their parking lot, a great band jamming on their stage, and picnic tables full of beer-drinking, pizza-eating guests soaking up the Hector summer.
Well, those good vibes don't just happen naturally, and if you've met Luke Fazzary and Jen Somer, you know they are the reason. They were thrown into the brewery business quite suddenly and have shown us all how to rock 'n' roll in the brewery industry on Seneca Lake.
Luke's father, Steve Fazzary, was the founder and visionary of Scale House Brewery. An opportunity arose to acquire a pizzeria in the Triphammer Mall in Ithaca, but Steve had bigger plans for the pizzeria, knowing that the burgeoning craft brew scene was gaining traction in the Finger Lakes. Scale House quickly gained a reputation for making awesome beer and delicious pizza. Soon, Steve and his son Luke were looking for a property on Seneca Lake, specifically in Hector. Steve, originally from Watkins Glen, saw the tourism and craft beverage scene exploding and knew they could take their business to the next level with the right location and space to increase commercial brewing production.
Scale House Brewery in South East Seneca opened in 2017, and it didn't take long for it to become a favorite for visitors and locals alike. Steve was running the show at the new location, with involvement from his son Luke. Luke had left the area and landed in New York City, working for a successful digital media firm. His strengths were problem-solving and creating the most efficient work environment. He excelled in this, eventually becoming Vice President of the company.
Tragically, Steve passed away in 2020 after a short battle with cancer. The community was devastated, as Steve had quickly become a beloved figure.
Luke and his fiancée, Jen Somer, always knew they would move to the area to be involved with the family business. Luke, through hands-on experience, knew how to drive a business forward and make it more efficient. He applied his skills to improve quality control and efficiency in both pizza-making and business operations. What many didn't realize, though, was just how much of an asset Jen would be. With years of customer service experience, most notably at the famous Hogs and Heifers bar in New York City, Jen is feisty and spirited. She brought her unique combination of law school, human resources, and entertainment experience to the business, ensuring excellent customer service and fostering a tight-knit, fun crew. Jen is also the brainchild behind their Summer Stage, hosting bands consistently throughout the summer, and recently adding the Booze Box, an outdoor bar set up during busy evenings.
Dominic Sims joined the team in 2023, bringing with him nine years of brewing experience, including time spent with Big Alice Brewing. He has added a small production flair to the beer recipes, with their most popular beers being Summer Jam and Peanut Butter Stout. Luke and Jen have also brought a creative element to beer can labeling by collaborating with artists specializing in band festival art, making their beers fun, creative, and artistically vibrant.
But beer is only part of the equation—their pizzas are some of the best on the lake. Luke has put his own creative twist on the menu with unique recipes like The Pickle Rick, The Ouchie, and The Hector Hot. They offer a full-service dining that includes fresh salads and handcrafted sandwiches. During the busy summer season, Scale House cranks out over 1,200 pizzas in a single weekend! Despite the impressive volume, their operation runs so smoothly that customers would never guess the scale of production behind the scenes.
The local community has watched Scale House grow and flourish, and we all know why—they've created an inviting, energetic atmosphere while serving quality pizza and delicious beer. We are thrilled to have them as members, and more importantly, their addition to the community and area is one we are all thankful for!
