When you walk into Rasta Ranch Vineyards, you are immediately transported to a different time—an easier time, where love and peace were at the forefront of everyone’s mind. It feels as though Janis is still alive, and you might just hear Crosby, Stills, and Nash playing in the background. Most likely, you will also spot Diane, if she doesn’t greet you first with a genuine smile and a warm welcome.

Diane is the heart and soul behind Rasta Ranch Vineyards. As the first female winery owner on Seneca Lake, she is a renegade in the industry. Opening her doors in 1993, Diane purchased the Fitch family farm here in Hector and got to work. Over the years, she has hustled with the integral help of her husband, Terry. Together, they have worked to establish one of the coolest, most memorable spots in the area. Unique wines like Terry’s Teaser, Jesse’s Joy Juice, and Arlo’s Apple adorn the tasting list, along with best sellers Uncle Homer’s Red and Purple Haze. No one can argue that Rasta Ranch doesn’t follow through with their promise of “Wine for Good Times.”

Her son and daughter play an important role in the family business, a great example of a true family-run farm. Over the years, they have planted over 20 acres of vines, ranging from Cayuga to Cabernet Franc. This high-quality fruit is used for Rasta Ranch wines, as well as being sold to some local farms.

Not only is Rasta Ranch a great stop on your wine tours or visits to Seneca Lake, but it is also a local refuge. Each week, you can hear local star and Diane’s son-in-law Brett Beardslee singing on Mondays for their weekly Monday Night Blues. You might wonder why they host this on Mondays, but it was meant for the local industry workers to kick up their feet and gather after a long weekend serving out-of-town visitors. If you happen to be here on a Monday night, make sure to swing by, as you will be welcomed with open arms.

As many of you know, the industry is constantly changing, and Diane is ready to stay ahead of the curve. She is now offering NYS cocktails and beer, along with local charcuterie, to enjoy on your next visit. New releases like Crystal Rhythm bubbles make us all happy to celebrate.

Rasta Ranch is the epitome of what makes the South East stretch of Seneca Lake special. As you walk into any of these establishments, you feel the heart and soul of the owners and know that you are a part of their passion. Cookie-cutter isn’t an option here, and Diane is surely a sign of that!
