Overlook Coffee
Overlook Coffee Co. is the newest addition to Burdett and has quickly become a hit. Who knew we were in need of some serious caffeination? Or maybe we just needed a cool, hip coffee spot to kickstart the mornings.
Christina Gandy and Brandon Evans opened Overlook Coffee this past summer in the village of Burdett. Brandon, a native of Odessa, NY, sports an impressive mustache that somehow makes perfect sense once you learn he’s an aerospace engineer. He continues to work remotely for Pratt and Whitney, designing aircraft engines, but when the idea of opening a coffee shop began to take root, he learned everything he could about coffee—which meant sourcing beans from single-origin growers to mastering the art of roasting their own beans and brewing high-quality coffee for their menu lineup, ranging from Nitro Cold Brew to cappuccinos. Brandon’s creativity also shines through in the logos he’s designed for their shirts and stickers.
Christina and Brandon met while studying at Syracuse University. Christina was a biology neuroscience major after completing her degree, she took a fun job at the Bird Bakery in San Antonio. Christina found she loved the business and impressively worked her way from counter clerk to director of operations. She played a key role in growing the bakery, scaling it from one location to three in just a few years, spanning two large metro areas. Brandon loves to say that Christina is a grinder, and her track record certainly proves that is the case.
After working remotely and splitting their time between Seneca Lake in the summers and Christina’s hometown in San Antonio, the couple decided to put down roots in Burdett. Brandon's sister and her husband were in the middle of a restoration project on a historic building on Main Street, Burdett. They had plans to incorporate commercial storefronts. Brandon credits his sister with the idea for a coffee shop, and together with help from family, they were able to make it a reality.
Overlook Coffee offers more than just great coffee and a small selection of bakery items. You are able to purchase their beans, roasted in their own facility. Their atmosphere is welcoming and inviting, providing a place to gather with friends or to just grab a brew on your way to work. They are a wonderful addition to our area, and we are thankful to have a young, innovative couple like Brandon and Christina investing in South East Seneca, so let’s give them a big, warm welcome and swing by for a delicious brew!
